Overview
Featuring a super-wide 16 meter curved LED screen for Watergardens shopping centre, the screen played custom games controllable by a set of permanent drums designed in-house. It was also programmed to be able to play any other media the centre management wished, like live major sporting events. The space included seating for shoppers and passersby to rest and watch the screen.
Drumkit
The plywood base of the drumkit. The drums were made from rolled corian sheets and packed to the brim with hardware. Each piece of hardware was virtually fitted in the drums to ensure they fit, allow airflow to prevent overheating and for smooth assembly.
The drumkit was designed to be intuitive and inviting for users of all ages and backgrounds, with a simple layout and clear visual cues. The drums were made from durable materials to withstand heavy use in a public space.
The seating was designed to exist in harmony with the curve of the screen. The cup-shape of the seating element informs the user that this is a place of rest and pause on their winding journey down the long shopping centre.
Upcycled (repurposed piping) and recycled (plastic waste into tabletop) materials were used in the construction of the seating, aligning with the project's sustainability goals.
Secondary Seating
A second seating island. the base is a poured concrete with cavaties for real decorative foliage. Corian seating with custom fabric padding is secured to the concrete along with upcycled stainless steel tubing to support the backrest.
